Independence of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean cruise ship will use Powerware devices to secure uninterruptible power supply when it sails in 2008.

The ship weighs in at 160,000 gross tons and joins Freedom of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas as the largest cruise ships and passenger vessels ever built.

She is 339 m long, and will cruise at 21.6 knots (40 km/h). She is currently being built in the Aker Finnyards dry dock in Turku, Finland and will be based in Southampton, England.

The cruiser requires uninterruptible power supply for a variety of security and entertainment purposes: emergency lighting, hotel computer system, fire detection, navigation equipment, interactive TV system, casino computer network and show control equipment to name a few.

This requires over 30 UPS devices, including all the marine versions of Powerware 9 series. The biggest UPS, Powerware 9315 300kVA, protects the emergency lighting.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines also uses Powerware UPS solutions on board of Liberty of the Seas(2007), Freedom of the Seas (2006), Navigator of the Seas (2003), Mariner of the Seas (2002), Adventure of the Seas (2001), Explorer of the Seas (2000), Voyager of the Seas (1999).
